چکیده

R abbit syndrome is an antipsychotic-induced dyskinesia of the mouth, characterized by a fine, rapid, involuntary perioral motion that resembles the chewing motion of a rabbit.1 The oral movements occur in a vertical direction and can be differentiated from tardive dyskinesia by the lack of involvement of the tongue and by the rhythmic pattern.2 However, differentiation of tardive dyskinesia or parkinsonism from rabbit syndrome can remain difficult, as the latter may present with features of the other 2 conditions.1,2 Since it was first described in 1972, rabbit syndrome has been mainly associated with the typical antipsychotics, primarily high-potency agents such as haloperidol.3 However, atypical antipsychotics are now used more frequently than in the past, and rabbit syndrome has also been reported in association with olanzapine, aripiprazole, clozapine, paliperidone, amisulpride, and, most commonly, risperidone.1,2 Here, we report what appears to be the first case of rabbit syndrome in a pediatric patient.

Olanzapine-Induced Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome

Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) is a rare but life-threatening idiosyncratic side effect resulting from neuroleptic drugs. NMS mainly occurs in patients treated with high-potency typical antipsychotics, but rarely caused by atypical antipsychotics. Although NMS is less common with atypical antipsychotic, but it seems that its incidence is rising due to increased administration of such drug...

Clozapine-Induced Rabbit Syndrome: A Case Report

Rabbit syndrome (RS) is an antipsychotic-induced rhythmic motion of the mouth/lips resembling the chewing movements of a rabbit. The movement consists of a vertical-only motion, at about 5 Hz, with no involvement of the tongue. Long-term exposure to typical antipsychotics has clearly been associated with RS, but little is known of the risk of RS due to exposure to newer atypical antipsychotics....

Rabbit Syndrome : an Uncommon Side Effect of Neuroleptics

The rabbit syndrome, a neuroleptic induced extrapyramidal side effect with Vafe onset, consists of rapid fine rhythmic movements of the lips that mimic the chewing movements of a rabbit. This syndrome was first described by Villeneuve in 1972. Unlike the buccolingual movements of the tardive dyskinesia, the rabbit syndrome improves with antiparkinsonian medication. The condition is reported to ...

Hyperprolactinemia and CYP2D6, DRD2 and HTR2C genes polymorphism in patients with schizophrenia

Introduction: Hyperprolactinemia is a common serious side effect of antipsychotic medications that are currently used in the treatment of patients with schizophrenia. Pharmacogenetic approaches offer the possibility of identifying patient-specific biomarkers for predicting the risk of this side effect. We investigated a possible relationship between variants (SNPs) in genes for cytochrome 2D6 (...
